Emergency numbers in Thailand

Thailand has no single emergency number in our source: it has one line per service. Save police 191, ambulance 1669, fire 199 and the Tourist Police 1155 before you land.

The numbers to save in Thailand

The Government of Canada's travel advice for Thailand lists the same police, ambulance, fire, tourist police numbers (read on October 29, 2026).

Which number to call in Thailand

Thailand splits its emergency lines by service, so the first decision is which one you need. Our source lists no general number that reaches all of them, so save each one in your contacts under a name you will find in a hurry, such as "Thailand ambulance".

  • Someone is hurt or seriously ill: 1669. This is the medical emergency line for an ambulance. Call it for a road accident, a fall, a drink that has made someone collapse or any injury that cannot wait.
  • You are in danger or a crime is happening: police 191. Use it for an assault, a threat, a break-in or anything where you need officers now.
  • Fire: 199. A fire in your room, your building or on the street.
  • A problem as a visitor: Tourist Police 1155. The Tourist Police hotline is listed on the Thai Tourist Police contact page. The Government of Canada's advice for Thailand says fraud incidents should be reported to the tourist police, which makes this the line for scams and fraud against visitors. It is not a replacement for 1669 when someone is hurt.

What to say when you call

Lead with what has happened and where you are. The second part is the one visitors get stuck on, so prepare it before you need it:

  1. The emergency, in one line: "a man is hurt after a scooter crash", "my bag was stolen", "there is smoke in the hallway".
  2. Where you are: a street name, a landmark you can see, or the name of your hotel or hostel. Keep the address of where you are staying in Thai script in your phone, so you can read it out or show it to someone nearby.
  3. How to reach you: your phone number, and stay on the line or keep the phone on.

If the call is hard because of language, ask your hotel reception, a shop owner or anyone nearby to speak for you. Hand them the phone rather than trying to relay every sentence.

After the call: hospitals, reports and your embassy

The Government of Canada says excellent care is generally available in Thailand's major cities, especially in private hospitals and clinics, while quality varies a lot in rural areas. It also warns that hospitals may ask for proof of insurance, a guarantee of payment or a deposit before they admit you, so keep your insurer's details in your phone and buy cover that includes medical evacuation.

If you are the victim of a crime, Canada's advice is to report it to the Thai police where it happened, and to do so before you leave Thailand: an insurer usually needs that report. For anything serious, also contact your own embassy, whose consular staff can help with lost passports, arrests and hospital stays.

Thailand's numbers are national. The same police, ambulance, fire and Tourist Police numbers work in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Krabi and on the islands.

Send these numbers to your people if you miss a check-in

Arm it is the free check-in in the HelloMates app. Before a night out, a late ride or a day trip, set a check-in hour on Bangkok's or Chiang Mai's clock and tick the people at home who should hear from you. Check in on time and nothing is sent. Miss it, and they get a prepared message with your last known location and these same Thailand numbers, read from the same tables as this page.

Arm it does not contact the police, an ambulance or any emergency service, and it sends nobody to you. It delivers your message to the people you chose. If you are in danger, call the number above yourself. See how Arm it works.
