How to use this list

Dial the general emergency number first where a country has one: it reaches every service. Where a cell shows a dash, the source we use holds no separate number for that service. Save the local number in your phone before you land rather than relying on whatever number you use at home.

Tourist police lines are for visitors and can help with theft, scams and lost documents. They are not a replacement for the emergency numbers when someone is hurt.

Send the local numbers to your people if you miss a check-in

Arm it in the HelloMates app is a check-in: set an hour on your destination's clock and tick who should hear from you. If you miss it, they get a prepared message with your last known location and the emergency numbers of the city you chose, from the same tables as this page. It does not contact the police, an ambulance or any emergency service.

Where these numbers come from

The police, ambulance and fire numbers come from Wikidata property P2852 (emergency phone number), published under CC0, plus a few numbers Wikidata does not hold, each read off a government page that the country's page cites (Indonesia's police, ambulance and fire lines). The tourist police and helpline column is checked by hand against official pages only, and every row links the page it was read from. These are the same tables the HelloMates app uses. If a number here is wrong, email hello@hellomates.app and we will fix it.
